More than Dry Eye Treatment

Dry eye is more than feeling dry. Poor quality tears lack components necessary for nourishing the eye’s surface, preventing the eye from receiving nutrients or evaporating too quickly to stay moist and clear.

You may experience a range of minor to severe symptoms, such as:

  • Blurred vision
  • Burning or scratchy sensations
  • Excessive tearing
  • A feeling of something in the eye
  • Light sensitivity
  • Redness

How We Can Help With Dry Eye

We believe we can do better than a one-size-fits-all solution. Many factors can contribute to your dry eye symptoms, so understanding your individual experience and eye health is crucial to providing effective dry eye treatment.

We get to know you and take the time to listen to your concerns, allowing us to tailor treatment to your needs. We prioritize quality care by investing in technology and following emerging research. From eye nutrition tips to in-office treatments, we aim to help you experience relief that makes a lasting difference in your life.

BlephEx

BlephEx helps alleviate dry eye symptoms caused by blepharitis, a chronic condition causing eyelid inflammation. Excess bacteria and debris along the eyelash margin can clog oil glands in the eyelids, causing poor-quality tears. BlephEx thoroughly cleans the eyelids to improve tear flow and reduce irritation. The procedure takes about 6–8 minutes.

Eye-Light is a light therapy treatment. It uses intense pulsed light (IPL) and low-level light therapy (LLLT) combined with Optimal Power Energy (OPE) light modulation. IPL procedures typically require patients to apply gel around the eye during treatment, but Eye-Light can treat upper and lower eyelids simultaneously without requiring gel.

Light therapies alleviate dry eye symptoms by stimulating tear flow and using gentle heat to melt oil clogged in the meibomian glands. The oil in tears is essential for preventing tear evaporation. Eye-Light treatment typically lasts 15 minutes.

iLux is an LED-based treatment to improve dry eye symptoms related to meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). Gentle heat and massaging melts blockages in the meibomian glands (eyelid tear glands). The movement and warmth also stimulate oils to flow freely, supporting healthy tear composition.

After Dr. Butts assesses your eyelids and eye health, the iLux can target areas of concern in the upper and lower eyelids. Most patients can be treated in less than 15 minutes.

TempSure Envi is a nonsurgical blepharoplasty (lid-lift) treatment using radiofrequency (RF). The energy gently warms the skin, stimulating new collagen growth (a protein crucial for tissue repair and immune response) to tighten the skin and reduce inflammation.

The stimulation also helps manage dry eye, melting oils clogged in the eyelid glands and controlling inflammation around the eyes. Most patients benefit from soothing treatments every 2–4 weeks to maintain effective symptom improvement.

Omega-3 fatty acids are a dietary option for preventing and improving dry eye. Omega-3s support tears composition, improving the quality of the oily layer (essential for preventing moisture evaporation). The digestive breakdown of omega-3s also creates an anti-inflammatory response to improve tear flow.

We carry PRN De 3 supplements, which contain 2240 mg of EPA and DHA (omega-3s). The nutrient form is more easily absorbed by the body, similar to a piece of fish, but without the aftertaste. PRN omega-3 supplements are ultra-purified form, micro-distilling containments like mercury, lead, and PCBs.

Diagnosing Dry Eye

Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) occurs when the oil-producing eyelid glands function poorly. The oily layer of tears helps stabilize tears and prevent moisture from evaporating too quickly.

Meibography is an imaging technology used to create a detailed visual of the meibomian glands. The images allow a more in-depth observation of the tissue’s structure, size, and health, making it an essential tool for diagnosing dry eye.

MGD is common but only one of many potential causes. Therefore, patients may benefit from a series of assessments or discussions of lifestyle and environment to get to the root cause of dry eye.
